What Happens During a Sleep Study?
- Our patients arrive at staggered times. You will be given a time to arrive, typically between 8 pm and 8:30 p.m. You will need your insurance card and a form of I.D.
- Once you are checked in, you are escorted directly to your room. You will have an opportunity to change into your two-piece pajamas or sweatshirt and sweat pants.
- You will complete a bedtime questionnaire.
- Your technician will prepare you for your study in the privacy of your room. He or she will apply pain-free sensors to your scalp, torso, arms and legs. You can chat and ask any questions that you have during this process.
- After the sensors are applied, you will be able to move around freely. You can use the bathroom or take a walk down to the kitchen.
- You will be encouraged to be to sleep by 11 p.m. or earlier if you prefer. (This time may change depending on your typical sleep habits.)
- During the night, your technician will monitor your breathing, brain waves and movement. Any time you need help, your technician will be there to assist you.
- Your technician will wake you gently around 6 a.m. and remove your sensors.
- You are free to shower and enjoy a Continental breakfast before you go.
- One of our board-certified sleep medicine physicians will review your study.
- They will communicate the results to the referring physician who will follow up with you. You are also able to contact us at any time.
